Rules nobody had time to read
(01) The problem
The rules for their work sit on state and federal websites. The pages change with no warning. Nobody at the practice had time to read them every week.
(02) What I built
I built software that reads those pages every week. It holds each page up against last week's copy. When a rule changes, one person gets the old line, the new line, and the page it came from.
Both pictures are examples. The shape is what was built; every word and number in them is made up, because the real ones are not mine to show.
(03) What went wrong
At first it sent too much. People stopped reading it.
The person getting the emails told me they had started to skip them. A watcher that gets skipped is worse than no watcher.
It now looks only at the words of the rule, not the rest of the page. On quiet weeks it says nothing changed. So a quiet inbox means something.
(04) What happened
The emails are short now. When one comes, someone reads it.
